Well, you've read the notes,, the notes spoke of Muse Margaret and the last batch of pages, and now it is time for you to post until the last batch of cows come home.

And the word of the day is: ADEPT!

Topic of the Day: I do not know from El Pollo Loco. The nearest one is in Kent, Washington, and I've never been to one. :-\
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept well. Whatever mental derangement that made me believe 6:00 to 8:00 PM was a morning tgimespanm clearly hit again last night. This morning, instead of ringing at 5:30AM, the alarm was set for 4:30. The cats and I were not amused. So, I reset the alatm and cuddled with Annabelle for an hour. It was a very cold night, and she was very happy to be buried in a pile of blankets.

Amazon Fresh arrives between 8:00 and 10:00 AM today. At 11:00 I have a session with Ben, my secnd British student. We will discuss his orchestration of the adagio from Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 17 for string orchestra.

DR George, thanks for the Follies link. Joshie assisted Jonathan Tunick on the orchestrations for that. Janie Dee plays Phyllis. In 2022, when I thought we had the money to record Jubilee, I cast her as the Queen. The cast at that time was as follows:

The Prince . . Nadim Maaman
The Princess . . . Annalene Beechey
Lord Wyndham . . John Molloy
Mowgli (Johnny Weissmuller) . . Jason Graae
Eva Standing (Elsa Maxwell) . . Kim Criswell
Karen O'Kane (Ginger Rogers) Scarlett Strallen
Eric Dare (Noël Coward( . . Bryce Pinkham
I'd make a few changes if we were casting it now.

DR Rodzinski, I never knew Ricky Nelson recorded "Violets of Dawn"! That's by Eric Anderson, whose "Thirsty Boots" is one of my all-time favorite songs. I just listened to Nelson's recording. It's really good!

TOD: El Pollo Loco is delicious.

As mistakes go, though, that's not a really bad one. That's got to happen for many people (I hope). I know I've accidentally scheduled 7 to 9 A.M. the next day deliveries thinking they were for 7 to 9 P.M. while placing the order - and only noticed when I got the confirmation email.
-
Good morning, all.
-
The site wasn't functioning for the five minutes or so I was just trying to log in. Seems okay now.
EDIT: Seems it's not working for me only on Chrome, and only suddenly this morning. It's fine on Safari. I have to go back and forth with browsers quite often. Absolutely maddening.

TOD
Following years of ignoring it, I tried El Pollo Loco in 1987, liked it, and did takeout now and then over the next couple of years. I had moved to West Hollywood and went to the one in the then-rebuilt block at Sunset and La Brea, right on the corner. (Hard to believe, then and now, that that was the classic Tiny Naylor's spot. On Google Maps, their building is now standing vacant.) To my knowledge there are none around here, but I haven't looked it up.
Like DR Laura, I thought it was delicious. I don't remember a lot about it now, except for being especially crazy about their salsa which I dumped on everything.

Yes, I'm frequently bad about remembering to make sure the AM and PM are correct when setting something. It's a thing.
-
Back to El Pollo Loco, I wonder why Sunset and La Brea would have stopped working for them as a location, and how long ago that happened. The Google street view of it being vacant is dated Sept 2025.

Today is Kristi's birthday* and I got stuff to do, so that's it for me for now. Later!
*The Andromeda Strain film starts with an opening caption of February 5, 1971, her birth year and everything, a thing she's always gotten a kick out of.
-
Happy Birthday to Kristi!
-
Great notes on many subjects.
-
I enjoyed CC on SNL and in a couple of movies....but he's not much fun to watch anymore.....for me.
-
It's like ABC that keeps trying to make Joel McHale happen.
He was the perfect host for Talk Soup all those years ago.
Since then....not so much....for me. And his toupee couldn't be more obvious - or maybe it's a transplant.
-
I enjoyed reading about Muse Margaret's comments on the new FINISHED book.

I tried El Pollo Loco once or twice and really liked it. Like ChasSmith, the salsa had definite appeal. The price was also reasonable. But … none of the locations are along one of my paths, so out of sight really is out of mind.

Right Elmore. Ricky gives a nice little shout out to Eric in that live clip.
-
I have no knowledge of Koo Koo Roo that BK also mentioned.
I see it was started in the year before I left L.A., so I would probably have seen the one near Beverly Center if it was there at that time, but I really don't remember knowing about it at all.
-
I’m just looking for the evenin’, the morning in your eyes.

Thank you fellas. There’s a local paper down in Bellingham looking for someone. I wrote a note to the owner to see how remote the gig could be. I live in the same county, but obviously, separated by another country. Be a lateral move, but just keeping options open.
-
My publisher thinks the COO’s departure was just a personality clash between him and the CEO. So maybe not a dire signal overall. Still… nobody really in charge at the moment.
-
I’ve never knowingly tried El Pollo Loco.

And now DR Rodzinski's avatar has vanished along with DR Laura's.
-
I enjoyed the Rick Nelson song and info from DR RODZINSKI and DR ELMORE.
-
Amazon Fresh arrived around 8:45. Most of the bread items were crushed from beiing jammed into bags with heavy items like cans and a bag of onions while other bags were half empty. The packagers are idiots. I detest Jeff Bezos and wish I could avoid ordering from Amazon, but Amazon's my only source for grocery deliveries.
-
That song is indeed nice!
I haven't kept up with the Nelsons much in recent years, but it's always great to be reminded of them.
My one time to see any of them was when I was eating lunch one day at the Magic Pan in Beverly Hills, late 1970s, and Harriet and David were at the next table, going over some papers while eating. And no one was bothering them. I miss those days.
-
From DR Rodzinski,
My fave Ricky Nelson lately is from his Live at the Troubadour album from 1969.
Violets of Dawn.
Thank you for the link.
-
from DR John,
I’m listening to The Heart’s Invisible Furies for the second time. I’m really loving it. It’s like a gay Dickens in a more recent past.
I read this in 2020. I do not recall thinking it was like a gay Dickens ;D

I've never cooked an artichoke in the microwave before. I'm going to do so today and hope it is fine.

When we moved here we left the pot I used for artichoke behind not realizing the pots we had weren't good for artichokes.

Harriett wasn’t very kind to Rick’s girlfriend who perished in the plane crash with him, in life or after her death, apparently, but who knows the deal.
-
I won’t comment on avatars till BK says all that needs to be done is done, except to say that people’s avatars have been coming and going for me, like Avatar Grand Hotel.

If we're reporting on avatars: So far in today's posts, I'm missing the avatars for Michael, John G, ChasSmith and Laura.

It is interesting how we are missing, or not missing, different avatars.

Also, mentioning our avatar lists adds to the posts, which is a worthy goal. :)

I'm up, I'm up - probably six or seven hours of sleep - hard to know. Was up at seven again, went back to bed at nine and got up at 12;45 just as food arrived and was a completely wrong order. They put the wrong thing in my bag - got a refund, which with Postmates is way too hard, I ordered again and called the restaurant to make sure they did it right, then it wouldn't apply the refund to use for the order because they're app based and I do this on my computer, so I had to use the app and that's not easy either. I think despite the 40% off coupons, I shall not use them again.
-
Obviously I have not begun proofing. I will now, although I need new readers - these are NOT doing the job anymore.

Up from a nap.

John Irving, Galsworthy and Forster are other obvious connections.
Dickens is the whole illegitimate/parentless child who has a picaresque life and encounters with fantastic characters.

It does not sound worth the discount, unless the food is amazing.

I remember in my wild youth reading a collection of film columns by a particular writer - Cruising The Movies - in one particular article the writer was obsessed by David Nelson's appearance in THE BI CIRCUS.
It is very amusing.

Page Four.

I do not know from El Pollo Loco.

I think I have written about the David Nelson interview in which he was asked "What is the difference between your life at home and your life on television?"
And David replied: "On television my mother knows where the kitchen is."

Good.

Correct food arrived and was good.

Managed to proof almost fifty pages - going slow, catching typos, cutting extra words that don't need to be there, that sort of thing. Nothing really egregious so far - and excising on sentence because I changed my mind about something later in the book.
-
We watched the first episode of the new season of THE LINCOLN LAWYER. We'll stop at one episode tonight, even though they've released all ten episodes at once.
Tomorrow we'll watch THE PITT, then maybe episode 2 of LINCOLN LAWYER - to spread LINCOLN LAWYER out a bit. But we've seen that we never know when the urge to binge could happen.

TOD: There's an El Pollo Loco near me, but I only went once because it was just alright and we have better options in the neighborhood.
-
I'm now scanning in the programs where I performed, starting from my trumpet days and just now starting with my vocal performances. First up were the student recitals that my teachers put on at Longy back in pre-Bard days where there was a great community program.
-
In one of the recitals I saw that my rendition of Lonely House was then followed by She Touched Me from Drat! The Cat! I hadn't realized I had heard anything from that score before bk directed it.
-
My very first recital song after taking about a year of lessons was Severin's revenge aria from Der Silbersee. Clearly my teacher was in the mode of "let them sing what they want to sing, it'll motivate them," though at least it's not ridiculously rangy or anything. I expect I did it in English; my German wouldn't have been very good then.
-
Der Silbersee was my introduction to performing Weill when we did the suite in my college orchestra.
-
So I'm thrilled to be finally seeing it on stage next month when Chicago Opera Theater does it.
-
Hope all is well with folks this evening. Vibes to those who need it.
-
Every so often I get a message when accessing the forums that it can't make a secure connection. When that happens I don't try to get it, I just wait a couple hours and it usually goes away, like it did now. I imagine this is part of the still-to-be-done updates for the forum that will then let them secure the site, but I wanted to mention it just in case.
-
Back to scanning. What did I do on those programs 30 years ago? Oh look, one number I still audition on, and another that I might audition on next year if they want songs from the show (which that company sometimes does).
-

Thanks for yesterday's comments, DRs Jane and George!
You're welcome, Kevin!
-
My Wordle: 5/6
Good for you!
-
Again with the page five.
-
Where has everyone disappeared to that we cannot get past page five these days?
-
We need clarity.
-
Not disparity.
-
Not sweet charity.
-
We need parity.
-
And hilarity.
-
And verity.
-
The word verity is a rarity.
-
Some austerity.
-
No barbarity.
-
Some celerity.
-
And angularity.
-
Some dexterity.
-
Some vulgarity.
-
Don't have the temerity.
-
Solidarity.
-
That was semi-fun.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
