Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of a matinee and talkback, and now it is time for you to post until the matinee cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: AFFLATUS!
-
I just met a girl named Afflatus.

Congrats, BK, on yesterday's successful matinee and talk-back!

Well, this is pretty cool:
Music that entered the public domain in the USA in 2026 (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ay6mPer5Ntc)
featuring John Philip Sousa, Edward Elgar, Sergei Prokofiev, Leopold Godowsky, Miklós Rózsa, and George Gershwin

Good to hear from DR JEANNE.
-
Writing and hand vibes for MR BK.
Glad to hear the show and talkback went well yesterday.

TOD:
My mom's homemade Mac and Cheese. I watched her make it many times so i can pretty much do it on my own.
I don't like boxed M/C but the worst was what they used to serve in the school cafeteria. It was so dry - the cheese was like powder.....
-
Let's see.....I have directed JOSEPH three times - four if you count the production that didn't open because of COVID.
The first I saw was the one I mentioned yesterday. Then a production at Indianapolis Civic Theeder. Three touring productions featuring Sam Hall, Brian Austin Green, and Donny Osmond (in Chicago), and a few high school productions.
It's fun if you're in the mood for it.
But Jason Donovan will always be my favorite.

Good morning, all!
-
I slept rather well, once I got to sleep. I spent too much time thinking about all the craziness this week - visitors, two home healthcare assessments, vacuuming - because everything I do these days takes me 2-3 times longer.
-
DR George, thanks for the copyright video. I enjoyed it.
-
Some of my earliest memories of my mother cooking are her baking mac&cheese, which she always made from scratch quite often. It was also a school cafeteria staple from Grade 1 (1951) to 12 (1964).
-
Good morning, all.
-
I got up at 5:00 a.m. and was outdoors at 6:00 starting the sn*w blower. The sh*t didn't stop falling until after 1:00 a.m. last night, so no one could do much of anything till this morning.
So I get down to the bottom of our driveway, and find two cars that the neighbor obviously couldn't get up her own driveway, partially blocking mine. Fortunately, no one here has to go out today which is a real blessing. I cleared around her cars, but until we sand and salt the hell out of our downhill slope there, we would not be taking the chance of thinking we can get around them, so we'll just wait and see how she handles it.
I think she lost her plow guy this year and she's got a horrible steep driveway that I saw her trying to shovel the other day, but this storm had no mercy. It's a real mess here. We got nine inches or so over the entire weekend, and it's been a long time since we've seen that much.
-
TOD
For many years, the only macaroni and cheese I ever knew was my mom's -- and whatever they served in the school cafeterias, but I actually don't remember the latter even though I had it many times over the years. But I loved my mom's. She was one who always added diced (or some kind of canned) tomatoes to it, and I literally grew up thinking that was what everyone did. I need to find the notes I jotted down years ago and make it myself. It might have simply been out of the Betty Crocker book, with the addition of the tomatoes.
-
Congrats to BK on the matinee and talkback. Wish we were there!
Next Sunday some kind soul should open their phone, press "record" on iRecorder or whatever they've got, and post the audio for us. Wouldn't that be a nice treat? I thought so. :)
-
Good morning, friends.

-
I first became familiar with Joseph in 1970, when my Sunday school teacher used the original recording (just released) as a basis for her lesson plans.
-
This was before the actor playing Joseph had to look good in a loincloth.
-
Glad to hear that the matinee and talkback went well.
-
A worm is a pretty disappointing prize for getting up early, if you ask me.
-
TOD: Mom and Dad always made pasta dishes that the family enjoyed, and macaroni and cheese was one of those dishes.
Making macaroni and cheese by myself was first the Kraft version, with the powdered cheese that somehow took on that cheesy goodness if you used the right ingredients and stirred it long enough.
-
Great news about yesterday's matinee and talkback!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Happy MLK Day!
-
Glad to read the talk went well.
-
No banks or postal services today.
-
I love most mac and cheese, even the blue box. And I love most stuff added to it, like brisket burnt ends, lobster or crab. I was not overly fond of Patti Labelle’s legendary version with five cheeses and egg in it. It was good, not great. And the not-great part was the inclusion of Velveeta, which seemed to flatten the flavor. Or maybe it was the egg that did it.
-

I have this memory from somewhere of mac&cheese with hard-boiled eggs baked into it, but it couldn't have been my mom's, who refused to eat eggs in any form except devilled. Her mac&cheese was really good with a nicely baked crust. Since she was a bit crazy and, like most of her housekeeping, her cooking was too often passive-aggressive, I remember that her mac&cheese was cpnsistently wonderful.

Kitty cleanup is over, and now I'm on to the vacuum. This will be grisly and take forever, if I don't fall.

DR CHAS SMITH I am sorry to read about your neighbor's car problems.
-
DR singdaw I keep hearing ads on tv telling people to call about Medicare health plans - was the deadline extended?
-
It is 10 degrees here with feels like of -10 degrees.
No wonder it felt so cold when I took the trash can to the end of the driveway.
-
Another small dusting of snow....
-
DR singdaw I keep hearing ads on tv telling people to call about Medicare health plans - was the deadline extended?
There are cartoon characters in some of the ads, too. It's all very entertaining - now that my 2026 Medicare programs are set, that is.
I still can't make sense of my prescription deductibles and co-payments, though. But until the numbers get too high, it's more than I want to question. Certainly, I'm paying less at 65 than I did at 64 (Pre-Medicare), at least.
-
It took me a little over an hour to vacfuum the apartment. At least it's done, and it was really necessary.
-
Not that I'm aware, DR Jrand75.

DR Kevin, good Wordle last night.

Good afternoon.

TOD: I don't recall ever having mac and cheese as a kid. I probably only made if after one of the kids asked for it. The boxed kind. Ugh.
-
Now we have to have mac and cheese on hand for every holiday. A kid and a vegetarian.
-
But I usually make it. With Velveeta. Because I'm feeding kids and they like it.
-
Now we have to have mac and cheese on hand for every holiday. A kid and a vegetarian.
Do you still make the boxed version?
-
But I usually make it. With Velveeta. Because I'm feeding kids and they like it.
:P ;D
-
We did errands this morning including a stop at Costco. To our surprise they had the Cranberry Walnut bread we like :)
-
We very likely had it with Velveeta, since that was cheese as we knew it for a while.
-
If my mother made macaroni & cheese I don't have a memory of it. I never used a box mix. I didn't make it until Keith went to Ratner's kosher dairy restaurant in New York and purchased their vegetarian cookbook. From then on I made it all the time. My children would not eat boxed mac & cheese unless they had to.
-

Sorry, but I hated it as a kid, too. No cheese food. Only real cheese.
-
Three!
-
I did like American cheese. In my mac & cheese I use Colby Jack.
-
TOD: I can't recall having mac and cheese as a kid, or when I first had it. I've never been a big fan. Spaghetti cacio e pepe? Now we're talking.
-
Velveeta melts well. I'd cut it into cubes, and I always made sure there were some cubes for the kids to steal.
-
I sometimes have the boxed stuff on hand. Grandson likes it. When you are feeding kids, you have to feed kids.
-
I made some chicken mushroom soup today. I got a 5 pound box of mushrooms for $7 on Friday. We're having mushrooms with everything.
-
I love a five-cheese mac and cheese with fontina, sharp cheddar, Swiss, gouda and Pecorino Romano. Maybe a touch of truffle oil. And a buttery panko topping.
-
I may have to make some soon.
-

I suspicion Velveeta isn't much worse for you than most things labeled "American Cheese". My understanding is that they're all below a standard allowing them to be labeled actual cheese as opposed to a cheese "product". I wouldn't sweat it.
-
Actually, in point of fact, I don't sweat it.
-
I don’t sweat it. I just don’t eat it.

Except in queso.

Not to mention read the review I knew would be bad, although its nastiness is not going to do this cheerleader reviewer any good. He thrives on being known as a cheerleader - takes his photos with cast members - he's only done this a handful of times that I've seen - he just did NOT like the play itself, thought the use of public domain tunes didn't work for today's audiences (I love when people say what works and doesn't work with today's audiences), singled out three performers in a negative way, which he rarely does and which really bothered me, did not even say a single word about the four leads' performances. I think people will understand exactly the issues when they read it and while the theater community in LA loves him for his 99% raves, no reviewers in LA really get people in seats. I get mentioned once - a he did his best kind of thing.
On the other hand - we got an advance quote from a review that's hitting Wednesday - that's a rave - and it, too, will not get people in seats.
-
Then I went right to futzing and finessing - I went back to the beginning of the book and adjusted several things, too, then I just wanted to get the first batch to Muse Margaret and didn't want to write new till I knew she was okay with what there was. So, off it went.
-
Around three, I sat on my couch and the next thing I knew the phone rang at six-fifteen.
-
It was the Muse - I knew she was having a long day and I told her tomorrow would be fine, but she started anyway and read the first six pages - then her eyes were just too tired so tomorrow it is. She did say she loved the first six so that's a good sign because they're very much what the book is - and she loves the title.
-
I'm gonna try to watch a movie.
-
Then who knows, maybe I will write a page or two.
-
Once again, I wish she of the Evil Eye were NOT coming tomorrow and could go back to Saturdays.
-

Got another Deanna Durbin musical, Mad about Music. Back then, they didn’t cap prepositions in titles, no matter how many letters it has. That’s because people knew their prepositions back then.

Topic of the Day: I don't remember my mom making homemade macaroni and cheese (it was never called "mac" and cheese until recently). I do remember finding a recipe when I was either in middle or high school on baking some boxed Kraft brand macaroni and cheese and doctoring up a bit. I don't remember the recipe, but I remember that it was really good.
-
I've never made it homemade. I've only either gotten it at restaurants or doctored up boxed versions...although, I don't think I've baked any since I was in school.

Hello, Rodzinski.

I ate Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, or what the Canadians call “Kraft Dinner” (perhaps because they’re not allowed to say the dust that comes with it is “cheese) a lot in my college days. It was a cheap meal. Then I realized I could throw a can of tuna in there and have a really good time. I tried this recently and it was way too salty.
-
TOD: I don't recall ever having mac and cheese as a kid. I probably only made if after one of the kids asked for it. The boxed kind. Ugh.

That reminds me of one of the earliest chip/taco dips that I ever had (I was an adult by this time): just heat up and melt a block of Velveeta with a can of chili con carne without beans, mix thoroughly, and dig in. It was always made in a crock pot so that it could stay warm.
