Well, you've read the notes, the notes gobbled, and now it is time for you to post until the gobbling cows come home.

And the word of the day is: GASTRONOMY!

Good morning.

And Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
-
Notes turkey. Lurked.
-
Hi Laura!
-
Happy Thanksgiving, crew!
-
Why am I awake at 3:30? Little tummy ache. But a glass of water helped.
-
George, that was a helluva adventure. Did you leave the mysterious valve off?
-
TOD: The only thing I want is turkey, stuffing (properly made), and gravy. Maybe mashed potatoes to hold more gravy.
-
No one knew where our water shutoff valve was when we moved in here. There is a main curbside one, but you really want to use one at the house. I was able to find it in the deep recesses of our crawlspace, which, luckily, is more of a walking-around space. I hope your mom’s place has one other than the street one.
-
A friend of Mrs Rodz is in town. We’ll take her on a tour of Vancouver and eat at a restaurant there. Likely no turkey this year. What I eat most, traditionally, is mashed potatoes and corn. I do not ever eat cranberry gunk.
-
George, your story about the appliances at your mom's house in last night's posts was really interesting!
-
I still don't know if anyone is coming today.
-
Wae-Ling texted me last night. She's alone for the holiday this year and asked if she could come help cook the turkey.
-
I still don't know if anyone is coming today.
When will you know? If they don't come today, will they come for leftovers tomorrow?
-
So there's Sassy and Wae-Ling.
-
Good morning, all!
-

I don't like the cranberry gunk that comes from the can.
But Skip made a great cranberry relish (which I chose not to wait until Thanksgiving to try).
-
Too warm last night, so I turned the AC on to 65 degreesF. By 3:45, when I woke for a bathroom break, all three cats were in bed with me. It was about 40+ degrees in the apartment. Stella didn't stay long, but Annabelle wanted under the blankets, where she settled in the curve if my back and hips while Thatch was happy sleeping next to my back and shoulders.
-
DR George, I loved your appliance tale; I almost thought our DR vixmom had returned to us.
-
Yesterday morning, I was set to begin writing the ballet prelude when my neighbor Ann, whom I've not seen in weeks beccause of her schedule, stopped by. She told me about the opning night of Chess, and we caught up on all that'oing on at 202 West 82. Then she was off to the matinee of the Bobby Darin musical.
-
So, this morning I will begin the ballet prelude.
-
As for the TOD: I'm in sync with DR Laura: turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy' it's a carbohydrate day with cranberries to cut the starch.
-
Maybe, just maybe, I'll fall asleep at some point - that point hasn't happened yet, despite numerous tries.

Sending sleep vibes so that you can enjoy the Thanksgiving dinner!
-
Good morning, all.
-
A Happy Thanksgiving to all!
-
I had a weird night of sleep / no sleep. At 10 pm I was ready to call it a night, having had a very active and hectic day. I turned off the light and fell asleep in pretty short order. I woke up, thinking it was nearly morning... at 11:17 pm. Lordy. Then back to sleep, again waking briefly a couple more times, until 2:48 when I got up to use the necessary. And then... and then... I lay there wide awake... until sometime after 5:00 am when I mercifully fell asleep and finally awoke at 8:00 am.

PAGE TWO!
-
TOD
The turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce are, together, my number one, and I will take multiple second helpings.
I have to single out the stuffing when I make it because it's a meal in itself. The leftover stuffing and cranberry sauce sandwiches are fabulous.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Happy Thanksgiving!
-
TOD:
I’m a bit of a heretic, but the traditional Thanksgiving dinner leaves me cold. All that dead food. I eat it, mostly out of politeness.
Today, I will be having two meals. The one I am looking more to eating is Chinese hot pot. You cook your shrimp, beef, lobster ball or more in a giant pot filled with a broth. Each item the flavors the broth. Excellent stuff.
Both meals will be wonderful because of having them with friends.

Wow, the Buena Vista Social Club Broadway cast made a very appealing presentation on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!
-
And, wow - Cynthia has a really long name!
-
Google's AI says this about Ariana Grande's name
"Ariana Grande's full name is Ariana Grande-Butera. She is an American singer and actress whose full name is sometimes used in credits, such as for the film Wicked. The hyphenated last name combines her mother's maiden name, Grande, and her father's last name, Butera."
-
Is he related to Sam Butera?
-
TOD:
Turkey & dressing.
-
I'm not sure that I know where my shut off valve is.....well the water shut off valve.
-
Tomorrow I am having my labs redone as set up in August.
-
TOD:
Most definitely the mashed potatoes.
-
I watched No Way Out last night.
Hadn't seen it in many a year. It's very entertaining and surprising.
-
Ann and Jen took Jen's niece to the parade this morning. Ann stopped by to say hello and took this photo of Stella up in the bookshelves.

Love that photo!
-
Is he related to Sam Butera?
That would be interesting if so!
This is what wikipedia says:
"Ariana Grande-Butera was born on June 26, 1993, in Boca Raton, Florida. She is the daughter of Joan Grande, the Brooklyn-born CEO of Hose-McCann Communications, a manufacturer of marine communications equipment owned by the Grande family since 1964, and Edward Butera, a graphic design firm owner in Boca Raton. Grande is of Italian descent and has described herself as an Italian American with Sicilian and Abruzzese roots. She has an older half-brother, Frankie Grande, who is an entertainer and producer. Her family moved from New York to Florida before her birth, and her parents separated when she was eight or nine years old. Grande had a close relationship with her maternal grandmother, Marjorie Grande."
-
Google's AI says
"No, Sam Butera and Edward Butera are not related. Sam Butera was a famous tenor saxophonist and singer, while Edward Butera is a graphic designer and the father of singer Ariana Grande. They have no known family connection. "

From DR Singdaw,
I had to use the utmost self-restraint to keep from yelling out, "FISH?"
;D
-
From DR John,
Tonight’s Thanksgiving Eve dinner was wonderful. I have been getting together with these friends for 24 or 25 years.
Such a nice, long tradition with your friends.
-
I watched No Way Out last night.
Hadn't seen it in many a year. It's very entertaining and surprising.
Which No Way Out? Costner? Poitier? Other?
The Costner was on TCM late last night. I watched The China Syndrome and very much enjoyed seeing that after several years, but didn't have it in me to tackle the later ones this time. Would have enjoyed this, though.
-
Happy Thanksgiving!
-
DR George, what a saga from yesterday and all you got for it was a microwave. Vibes the water valve can be found and doesn't need replacing.
-
From George,
Wow...it's been a while since Keith has needed all six guesses. But good that he got it!
You know he was relieved-lol. Lucky for him, there was only one word left to use when he got to the sixth line.
-

Is there a "story" about Sam Butera?

We have a water room inside our condo and can easily turn the water off, which we do before we travel. In the garage there is something that can be pulled to turn the water off for our unit and the two units above us. That is in case the neighbors above us are flooding us with water.
-

Hmm, this sounds like a situation where, if neighbors really disliked each other, this could be a clue in a detective movie. :)
-
I'm up, I'm up - about five and a half hours of sleep.
-
I cancelled the Wechters - the thought of a forty-minute drive each way was not appealing when I'm this trashed.
-
I was able to get a table at nearby El Torito for their Thanksgiving buffet thing, which dear reader Jeanne and I have done and I was hoping she'd come up but she's not up to it. Trying to find someone who's not doing anything, otherwise I'll change it to just me and go over there at three.

I'd go back to bed but I think I'd sleep all day.

George, that was a helluva adventure. Did you leave the mysterious valve off?
Thanks, Rodzinski! It really was! And actually, I left the water on. When my mom has the city people come out, I want to see how they do it so that I can do it correctly in the future, if necessary.

"BLUE MOON" POSSIBLE SPOILER - AVOID THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT A POSSIBLE SPOILER ABOUT "BLUE MOON" - BUT PLEASE ANSWER OTHERWISE IF YOU HAVE ANY THOUGHTS
The scene in the Sardi's bathroom where Hart is getting so emotional (to the piano player) about the reviews of PAL JOEY, in particular negative quotes from Brooks Atkinson's review, make it seem like the movie BLUE MOON's creators seems to be saying that the reception of PAL JOEY (in its premiere) must have been very responsible for a downward spiral in Hart's life.
Do others think I was I reading too much into that scene in the bathroom with the piano player?
-
Well, Freddie, I don’t think the reviews helped any. But John O’Hara might have tried to outdrink Hart. That certainly didn’t help.
-
Pal Joey also opened on Christmas Day. I don’t think that helped with those reviewers who wanted a day off.

I didn't realize that. Well, that seems like a strange decision for a feel-not-so-good show to have made!

Dinner was fine. I don't know why it is at Thanksgiving, but I really don't eat all that much and yet I feel like I've eaten five full meals.
-
Had one half piece of turkey, one small slice of ham, two bites of a cheese enchilada, a few bites of salad.
-
The substantial was stuffing, one and a half helpings.
-
One tiny roll and corncake, one helping. One small helping of cranberries. That is IT.
-
And believe me, they had lots of stuff I didn't try at all.
-
Waddled to my car and came right home.
-
That was four-thirty.
-
I sat on my couch, turned on the Firestick and went out within two seconds of doing so. Just woke up at six-fifteen.
-
Still full.

Really full.

I could watch Kiss of the Spider Woman tonight.

We shall see.

All right, you lazy louts, get off your collective ASSES and vote for the B'way World awards. We need me much higher than I am and that goes for every category we're in and we're in most of 'em. Below is the link. We're in all the musical categories - just find Drat! The Cat! and vote. Now. We're also in the best cabaret thing with a Kritzerland show so be sure to vote for that. Be sure you complete the voting process. If you are in a category and don't see us just click on No Nominee at the top. I need every single person here to do this.

Hart is almost at rock bottom. He’s pathetic. And yet, if you know his work, you know he’s brilliant, even if his style is becoming dated. Rodgers was an ugly person on the inside. Elizabeth is using Hart, and he’s aware of it, but he’s smitten.

I found almost every character in it unpleasant, but I don't know what the intent of the movie's creators was in that regard.
Thank you.
Hart is almost at rock bottom. He’s pathetic. And yet, if you know his work, you know he’s brilliant, even if his style is becoming dated. Rodgers was an ugly person on the inside. Elizabeth is using Hart, and he’s aware of it, but he’s smitten.
POSSIBLE "BLUE MOON" SPOILER
In the movie, despite seeming so unpleasant, Rodgers still seems to keep trying to throw Hart lifelines, like writing new songs together for the Connecticut Yankee revival, asking him over and over to make sure Hart knows hw's wanted at the party later that night, Rodgers even acknowledging that he wouldn't have a career without Hart.

I still think of Rodgers as the charming, alcoholic low life who later said some truly horrible things about Hart. He’s also a predator of young women.

I am not sure I am quite prepared or interested for the KIDS OF TCM to take over on Saturdays in December.....they seem pretty much insufferable on the promos.
So if I get any invitations I shall be free to step out on the town.

One of them seems to be the daughter of Ben Mankiewicz.

I may be blowing out of proportion the scene in the men's room where Hart is shown talking to the piano player bitterly about Brooks Atkinson's (first) PAL JOEY review. I should probably give the movie another watch, especially that men's room scene about the PAL JOEY reviews.
-
I could quote that review. The “sweet water from a foul well” line was quoted in every source on Pal Joey, including my copy of the libretto. So, I imagine he took it to heart.
-
CODA is charming.
-
"BLUE MOON" NON-SPOILER
It's noteworthy that the rave for OKLAHOMA! in the Times was not written by Brooks Atkinson (who was away on assignment at the time).
The movie mentions that the review was by (Atkinson's temporary replacement) Lewis Nichols.

That made me wonder whether the Atkinson review of PAL JOEY factored a great deal in Hart's depression. In those days, the Times critic could make or break a show and artist more than the modern era.

LOL DR singdaw.

I have received my confirmation from BW for my votes.
-
today on TCM we had Doctor Dolittle followed by Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
So many things are wrong with DD - it made CCBB look even better than it is. I always like it and of course the songs are top drawer.
-
I downloaded BLUE MOON from an educational site....but it is dubbed into Spanish.
I should read the fine print.

This paragraph below is interesting, in The New York Times obituary for Lewis Nichols.
LEWIS NICHOLS, TIMES DRAMA CRITIC DURING WORLD WAR II, DEAD AT 78
https://www.nytimes.com/1982/04/30/obituaries/lewis-nichols-times-drama-critic-during-world-war-ii-dead-at-78.html
"As a critic, Mr. Nichols won not only quick respect for his judgment but also a reputation as one of the most accurate prognosticators of the probable success of new Broadway plays and musicals. According to a ''box score'' published by the show business paper Variety, he reached the astounding percentage of .913 for the 1943-44 season by correctly assessing the commercial prospects of 63 of the 69 productions he reviewed for The Times. "

Thanks, Freddie. It was truly a wild ride. Sounds like the reviewer liked it.
