And. Very Happy Birthday to DR KevinH!! :D
Thanks for the Chess repor, DR MichelG!!!
Joshie has asked me to listen to the OBC of High Sprits, one of my favorite scores. I may have some work on the Encores! production. I can't say anything about the cast except that the Mme Arcati is perfect casting.
From a Minnesota post on Facebook:
My parents recently noticed four stray cats showing up in their garden. They were thin, cautious, and always together — like a little family trying to survive the Minnesota winter. ❄️
My dad couldn’t stand seeing them out in the cold, so he decided to build something special — a tiny cat “condo” tucked right by the trees. It’s insulated, lined with straw, and fitted with gentle heat lamps to keep them warm through the freezing nights. Inside are cozy blankets and little shelves where they can curl up safely.
He even built a small raised platform to hold food and water — high enough to keep raccoons and other animals from getting to it. And, because he couldn’t help himself, he added a birdhouse nearby “for entertainment,” as he put it.
Now, every night, you can see the glow of the warm shelter from the window — and inside, four content cats curled up together, finally safe. ❤️
It’s amazing what a bit of compassion can do. Sometimes love doesn’t need words — just a little shelter, a warm light, and a heart that cares.
And all the while, here we are again tonight with another op'nin', another show. Ain't that grand?

MichaelG, what's your impression on the issue of whether it's closer to an Encores presentation than a typical Broadway-size musical?
A follow up to that could be: Could this be a budget-aware way of producing in this era where new $25-million musicals just aren't paying their investments back despite big grosses?
Of course the sets are nowhere near as elaborate as The Queen of Versailles. But they filled the stage a lot better than Ragtime, where what few sets there were looked exactly like the Encores transfer it is.
CONGRATULATIONS, DR John G., on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!
Off to JFK now, where it looks like my flight is delayed a couple hours but they want us there on time anyway.
It actually was as sunny a day as we’ve had lately, but in Southern California where it never rains. Seems I’ve often heard that kind of talk before.
I’ve been listening to the Do Re Mi original cast recording on RCA with its nifty die-cut sleeve.
Break a leg ChasSmith!
I used to have a bunch but had to cull from my exotica when we moved at some point.
Here’s a die-cut classic.
Axel Stordahl’s Lure of the Blue Mediterranean.

DR John, I hope all is well with your sister and brother-in-law.
Whew, almost missed a birthday!

The rain is pounding on the home environment. Really hope we don't lose power. But I'm going to bed shortly anyway.
I guess you can add me to the list of the ailing since I have a sore throat and a bit of a runny nose that started last night.

I have no idea what ya'll are talking about. But I appreciate the friendly discussion.
And then there are the Rolling Stones' die-cut Some Girls album jackets.
There was a Readers Digest set of operettas that was particularly good which I believe I still have. DR Elmore knows about this one. If I'm remembering right, it was released outside of the U.S. with an additional disc which I only have digitally.
My neighbor the G&S fan, who unfortunately had a stroke and had to move into a care facility, had that set. I put together a playlist of G&S music and other stuff he liked like the Comedian Harmonists, but it didn’t seem to do anything positive for him.
Send excellent vibes and xylophones for the arrival of something important. Supposed to arrive today, but who knows.

Looked it up - I guess I must have dreamed it.

I'm happy to hear my friend Bryce is in Chess since he and Scarlett have a baby to keep in baby things. Hs wife Scarlett is the Liza Doolittle on the John Wilson recording of My Fair Lady. DR Ginny and I saw them both in A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder.
When we were hoping to record Jubilee in 1921, I had cast Bryce and Scarlett as Eric Dare and Karen O'Kane. I'm afraid that's my last chance to record the score.

Does anyone really slap their knees anymore? 8)
I hope all our ailing Haimsies and Kimlets are feeling better, pronto!

Very sweet story. That's an AI generated image, but still a sweet story. :)
For all I know, it's an AI story, too!

Last night DR Rodzinski said:QuoteI’ve been listening to the Do Re Mi original cast recording on RCA with its nifty die-cut sleeve.
I've always been a sucker for those die-cut sleeves and other RCA deluxe packaging such as the Soria Series. (They did a few of the Soria single disc releases in the extra heavy cardboard but without die-cuts, I think). Other die-cuts included an album or two of Dick Schory "exotica" or percussion music. In later years, the first issues of their ".5" half-speed-mastered series were die-cuts, as was Merrily We Roll Along. (If I'm remembering these right, being too lazy to look them up!)
I used to have a bunch but had to cull from my exotica when we moved at some point.
Culled From My Exotica - sounds like a possible title for something
I found my back brace and have put that on. It’s helping a little.
And I have a second of at least three interviews at Trader Joe’s set up for next Friday.

Back home now. I watched Widow Clicquot on the plane and enjoyed it.
Had a Jersey Mike's Philly - pretty good. That was noon. This is now - just ordered a chicken breast from California Chicken Cafe for now - and a little side of chicken pasta salad for later.

Here’s a die-cut cover I kept because I found a copy still in shrink and it looks like it could’ve been printed yesterday. Laura, die-cut just means the covers had a cut out so you could see through to the gatefold or the inner sleeve. In this case all those circles are cut outs, the colorful parts are on the inner sleeve.
Note the other release of this record was a completely different die-cut on the Premier series which featured a lot of cool cover designs.

Eight would be great.
Dancing went fairly well. My partners were great. In the Viennese waltz routine, though, we got to the very last step and my back starts to let me know it’s not happy. And it wasn’t an easy step.
The something did arrive, I'm told, but not fully. We need the something to arrive FULLY.
